Hello
I am trying to make USB connection to PIC18f14k50.
Following are connections :-

Pin 1 (Vdd)------>5V
Pin 2 & 3 -------->External crystal oscillator (20MHz)
Pin 4 (MCLR)------------->Pulled high with 10K
Pin 20 -------------------->GND
Pin 17---------------------> capacitor (0.1UF)

First I try to upload the bootloader through MPLAB IDE through pickit3.
After downloading the bootloader, I connect the USB to pic18f14K50.
Doing this, my windows 10 gives a message "USB not recognized"

Any help in this regard is appreciable.

Thanks

Hello!

Are you sure that a 20 MHz crystal can work when using USB?
Usually it's a multiple of 12MHz, so if you try with 12, 24, 36, 48, it may work
but with 20, I think it's a bit suspicious.
NB: I have never used PIC, so there may be a smart PLL or FLL of some kind
that allows to use USB with other frequencies, but that's the first thing I thought
about.

Dora.

Hi,

What bootloader did you install?
As already written it needs to be able to work with your 20MHz and it needs to handle the USB.

Your pin desription misses the USB connections with all the additional circuitry.
--> better post a complete schematic. Hand drawn is O.K.

Klaus

Datasheet is pretty clear in this regard. Full speed USB can run with 12 or 48 MHz input clock, nothing else. 12 MHz crystal is the usual choice.
