UL Component Data for PCBs

Just wondering is someone could shed some light on what components on a PCB require UL approval?

We have a product that we have been preparing the UL data for, but it seems UL data is quite hard to obtain on some parts (such as small SMT resistors, transistors and some ICs).

Furthermore if anyone could point me in the right direction on where I can find some good info on the subject of getting electronics products UL approved it would be appreciated.
