It is an old project of a simple home made UFO with cheap and efficient light source.
Elements needed:
- glass, double sided laminate
- mirrors
- transformer
- electronic elements
- housing – 6mm plywood
Lenses were adpted to the light source (transformer + halogen 12V/50W). Their focal length was more or less around 5cm, and the diameter of no more than 35mm. It was to be efficient, so one of the assumptions were not to loose too much in the dispersion of light – hence those dimensions and need for searching for the perfect lenses (focal length and diameter). Watchmaking magnifiers are ideal for this use, you only have to remove the glass lens from them.
Electronics:
The device is based on electret microphone, amplifier-filter (low frequency), the triggering and pulse formating system. If the sound was strong enough to control the generator, the generator got a triggering pulse, which had to last as long as it was needed for the engine so „trash” did not come to it. Executive level consists of 2x 555 snd opto-triac triggered in zero (to reduce interference).
And the motor:
The motor is made of synchronous motor (220V) and a gear which reduces rotations to approximately 12-15 rpm. The motor must rotate at a random direction each time.
Reel with lenses – also made of laminate cut by a special hand saw.
The device only needed to be soldered into a neat shade of eight walls. A hole 2mm smaller than the diameter of lenses were made in each of the walls. Then lenses and 'ROSCO' filters were glued to the laminate with silicone.
Construction details:
As you can see, the device can be easily moved, when folded. Fastening with four buckles is sufficient to protect the inside form damage/dirt. The external housing is not impressive, but what is more important, easy to pack.
