741 voltage follower

Dear all,

I tried to use the 741 as a voltage follower. The IC should give an output that can vary between 0 and 2.4V. I noticed, however, that the IC always has a minimum output of 1.92V even when the input voltage is lower. Is this because I used 0V on the V- and 12V on the V+. If so, can sombody advice me a suitable opamp that can work with ground and 5 or 12V.

Thanks a lot

You have properly diagnosed your problem source. What you look for in selecting another amplifier are the words "rail to rail" input and output.

Would an LM358 help me out then?

voltage follower with minimum output

i don't remeber exactly, i used it before 2 years. u should use +12V, -12V as a reference voltages on pin 2,5 ( i think that)

minimum voltage to 741

Yes, the LM358 common mode voltage includes ground, so it will help at low input voltages.
