two regulator (5 , 3.3) in a circut?

Hi,
I need two voltage (3.3 and 5V) in a circuit, 3.3 is for xmega and 5V for LCD.
I would like to know if it is possible and ok to use 2 regulator to make them or It is better to use 5v and then divider to make 3.3V?

So you mean it is better to use two regulator in a circuit?
on other is it better to power 3.3regulator from main power supply or from the output which I a getting from 5v regulator?
 

12V------> 7805 ->5v for LCD


5V -----> LM1117 ->3.3V for uc

connect 7805 to 12V main power
and lLM1117 regulator to 7805 output.
