Knocked this up in about 10 minutes from bits and pieces in the garage.

I salvaged the 24VDC 250W motor from a discarded motorised scooter I found in a paddock years ago - it has been sitting in my cupboard waiting for a new life.

The paling fence metal strip is a foot pedal to turn the winder on and off.

The only things I had to buy, for about $5, were the nuts, washers and length of all thread.

You clamp the spindle between the two nuts/washers and away you go.

I found that by powering the motor with 9V/350mA it spins at a fairly slow speed.

A micro switch to increment a counter is a very useful addition to keep track of the number of turns specially on primary windings.
