I am a newbie for software programming. So I couldn't understand even some basic concepts of Software/OS...

Thats why I am asking these kind of questions....

1. What is Kernel in Operating System, where does it reside...?
2. Please suggest an ebook/book to learn the basics of Operating Systems

Please help me..

Kernel is the core part of the OS with basic commands for the OS functioning. To have a working knowledge you can start with Peter Norton's books like Inside the PC. Then look at Dummy series books.
