anyone knowing about the use of the upcoming L2 civilian band?
What is its prominent use,
- replacement for L1
- diversity to avoid interference holes
- dual-band use with L1 for greater precision (do we need simultaneous reception/processing or could we first operate on L1 and then on L2, what about a receiver in a moving car?)

The new civilian signal is perhaps the most important one for next 10 years.
1. It does not replace L1 but with L1/L2 inonspheric errors may be easily corrected.
2. Yes, frequency diversity.

4. You may use L1 and L2 for same satellite and get better sensitivity.
There are a host of other uses, you jst have to study the signal structure. Look for Van Dierendock s paper.

From the literature study I am not sure if in order to take (supplementary) advantage of L2, does one need to double the hardware or can the L1 and L2 signals be done serially after switching channels? And if so, would the ionospheric (serial) correction work in a moving receiver, say in a car?
