This useful device can be easily home made by anyone. Everyday there is a new file created, in which the temperatures from sensor are recorded. The whole configuration can be read from configuration file in the memory card. This solution was used in order to avoid adding buttons and fit everything under the display. Atmega32 uses a quartz resonator and operates as the clock and calendar.

Structure of the configuration file is as follows:
13-04-02
12:32:00
12

The file must be on the SD card when starting and it has to be named CONFIG.TXT. The first line is the date on which the recorder will be activated. The second line is the time at which the recorder will be activated. The third line is the number of seconds divided by 5, indicating periods of time between each recordings.

During operation, the recorder alternately displays:
  • temperature
  • date and time
  • amount of time until the next recording

A countdown appears 3 seconds before the recording starts. That prevents from turning off the device while recording and the possible loss of data from the memory card.
