TC35 GSM module; network registration problem, no signal strength

Hi All,
I have been reading the problems people are having with TC35 GSM module and couldn't find the same problem I have. First of all, my power supply is a 5VDC, 1A output and my SIM card is fully functional.
In response to AT command: AT+CREG?, I get +CREG: 0, 2 meaning no network registered. I also get a response to AT command: AT+CSQ, +CSQ: 99,0 meaning that there is no antenna hooked up or no signal strength.
I checked this command with and without SIM card, with and without antenna and it reads the same response at all times.

I am not sure if the RF power needs to be turned on by an AT command or there are some other AT commands that I am missing.
At this point I got stuck and started seeking help in this forum.

as you say if the response to AT+CSQ is +CSQ: 99,0 it looks like an atena problem of signal too low

I have had broken antena connections which gave this problem also in certain types of buildings or certain places the signal was very poor - moving to a different location helped in this case

I believe there is an At command to turn on the RF power that I don't know about. If you were able to successfully send SMS, did you send any other commands beside these: at+cmgf=1

when we had the antena problem (Wavecom Fastrack Xtend modem - cable broken inside the metal cover) we fixed it and it was then OK

when we had poor signal moving to a different part of the building often fixed the problem

I don't know of an AT command to change the RF power
