igbt series

Hi,
When IGBTs are connected in series (for high voltage switching, the voltage rating of a single IGBT would not be sufficient and hence they would be connected in series, so that the voltage gets divided across these IGBTs), how can they be turned ON synchronously. How is the design taking care of this series connection of IGBTs

igbt series connection

on/of speed? transformer or optocoupler intended?
