Supply for guitar amplifiers?

Hello,

For guitar amplifiers.....those that musicians use in concerts............do they have normal mains (230VAC or 120VAC) inputs?..............

...or is the mains put through a 50Hz transformer/rectifier/smoother module....and then all the amplifiers SMPS's switch off this rectified low voltage bus?
 

If you mean the power amps, they all run directly off the mains power. Effects pedals generally have their own wall warts although I think if you have a lot of pedals you can power all off one wall wart. Not SMPS though, I think - too noisy.

I think that you will find that most professional guitar players use valve amplifiers, such as Marshall and Fender. With a valve rectifier and a choke capacitor filter. Which is 50 year old technology. Modern amplifiers have not yet managed to recreate that rich harmonic overdrive sound that you get with valves.

Whereas the bass players use small lightweight but powerful amplifiers using switch mode power supplies and class D amplifiers. They aren't so much concerned with overdrive distortion but solid clean tight bass and something light to carry.
