Re: i need advice

There are 3 approaches in studying computer networks:

1. Data communication approach: this approach is recommended by communications staff and needs some cademic background in communication. However u can have an abstracted view to this approach. I recommend u "Data and Computer Communications, Sixth Edition. by William Stallings"

2. network vendors approach: This approach focuses on technical aspects rather academic. It concentrates on network administrations. The most famious tracks are: CCNA by CSICO and MCSA by Microsoft. If u r not graduated in an enginnering faculty (eithr communication or computer) I am recommending you this approach. The material of CCNA and MCSA is very popular and u can simply find alot on the internet.

3. Developing approach: This approach is focusing on understanding the protocols of the internet to can develope network applications. If u r excellent in programming i recommned u this approach. U can start from the great book "Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach Featuring the Internet by Kurose"

Hoping these info is useful

in my opinion you better start with computer networks book by andrew tanenbaum, and for more technical overview try communication networks by al garcia

Re: i need advice

Depends on your current level and your near objective. If you want to know the application side you should look for online resources which are current and have good contents.

Re: i need advice

Networking for dummies is a good idea in my opinion. Else get any CCNA textbook from your local bookshop. It will cover the basics.
