senior design project ideas

Does anyone have any good ideas for an RF senior design project. I was thinking about designing a wireless cell phone battery charger. I have read numerous articles about tesla and his wireless power transfer ideas. Is this project even feasible? Where would I start?
 

Battery charger design is not an RF project; even in your case where is part of a cell phone.
For RF project you can try a cell phone front-end design (e.g. diplexer, T/R switch, filters, LNA and PA)

A good subject to work on Class-E power amplifiers in RF( for instance 2.45GHz) or Passive components on silicon substrates...etc.
 

Two BIG suggestions - don't try something too hard or you will never get it completed in time and any parts you use must be readily available off the shelf. I saw many people never get to the end in my senior class because of these two things.
My project was a weather satellite receiver that fit into a laptop computer. You could take your laptop anywhere in the world, point a simple antenna at the sky and receive the weather pictures. It was pretty simple, a GaAs FET LNA, an IF chip and a simple PLL chip.

Try to design a simple RFID system operating at probably 13.56 MHz (or higher if you have microwave design/testing capabilities). You can design the three main system components viz. Reader, transponder and Host Interface (Well the HI would just be a computer!) with knowledge of basic circuit and emag theory. If you manage to get a prototype working it would look great on your resume as RFID is one of the hottest buzzwords in the industry.
 

Another factor is to make something you can use in everyday life. That way the money and time you spend on the project will bring you extra benefits beyond meeting the school graduating requirements.
