Suggestions for a SLA battery charger

SLA battery charger

this charger generate a lot of heat. but it simple.
SMPS on LM2673(for example) working better.

as this circuit doesn't have automatic cutoff, is it ok if i leave the charger connected ALWAYS.
or can you please suggest a circuit with automatic cutoff

a battery must be charged with 1/10 of its AH value
so18 divided by 10 comes to 1.8 amps
LM317 has a 1.5 amps output so it is not advisable to use this circuit as it will run overheated and fail
better to use the LM350 circuit which has a 3 amps rating

Use stend-by mode of charging. This way you can leave the charger connected ALWAYS
