Hello friends,
I'm a newbe in network programming.
As I have understood , network softwares are used for adding/striping special information to/from the main data such as source and destination address, service type, etc.
Is there anything else that these kinds of softwares do?
Also I'm looking for softwares for this purpose.Would you introduce linked softwares ?
my friend suggested "Colasoft Capsa".what does this software do exactly?
thanks in advance
You're using a network in your home to connect to the internet, which is a collection of networks. Your network at home is your
PC and your router.
It looks like the software your friend referred you to is for looking at network traffic. You could just use the free Wireshark software,
it is free, good, and probably the market leader. I highly doubt many people use this Colasoft software.
So Colasoft is just for observing the network traffic...
My friend also suggested this package for network programming , and I couldn't understand what it is
WinPcap is a capture driver , usually installed when installing WireShark (Free network analyzer).
WireShark will save you , when you need to see what's going on on the network wire.
Just make sure you use an old HUB when debugging (shared media) , or a switch with capture capabilities ($$$$$).
The switches you normally keep around will not show you the dataframes destined for another mac-address.
I have kept an old 10Mbit HUB just for debugging purposes.
