[SOLVED] Stepping down sinusoidal voltage

Hello Everyone!

We know that an non-inverting amplifier built around an op-amp will amplify the input AC waveform with some finite gain set by the resistors.

Do we have something to do the opposite thing say feeding 1V Amplitude/1000Hz AC waveform to some circuit and getting out 5mV Amplitude AC waveform. [ I don't want to use a voltage divider or a transformer]
 

NO WE cannotttt!!! there are BJT's, FET's etc inside amplifiers and it can never work other way around , for eg how can u get output from the gate of any mosfet ???? you certainly can't . you need a voltage divider or use a transformer
 

Hi,

you can build an inverting OPAMP circuit with a 200k input resistor and a 1000 Ohms feedback resistor.

Is this what you want?

A gain of less than unity is possible for the inverting configuration. However, for the non inverting configuration the gain can never fall below unity for any value of resistance.

What about the stability issues? Will it be stable?

it depends on the opamp.

look for unity gain stable opamps.
