hi,
I want to control a bipolar stepper motor(4 wires)using pc parallel port.i am using pm 42l-sye8 motor.its specification are 24v,600ma,coil Resistance 7ohm,the driver mentioned in the datasheet is udn 2916bv but i thought of using l293d,can i proceed with l293d or should i go for udn 2916bv,pls reply, its urgent

You might get more responses if you mentioned what the important differences are between The two drivers. It is a lot of work to look up the specs and then guess which aspect of the specs are causing you doubt. The speed and torque requirements for your particular application might also matter.

You can use it with out any hesitation if it your H-Bridge fulfills volt and current requirements for load ...
