hello everyone

I have a multimeter , it has ordinary functions like voltage, resistance, current, buzzer etc..

but I noticed that one of its function positions is a sign of square wave.

what is this function? does it produce square wave and works as an basic signal generator?

Why don't you read the multimeter instruction manual?
Some multimeters may include a pulse generator but most only have a "TTL probe" function that indicates TTL HI or TTL LO levels.

It is an old multimeter that I lost its manual years ago. It was cheap type DT832. I searched over internet to see if there is a manual for it, but i did not find.

On another thread or forum, somebody (maybe you?) said that the square wave is a single frequency at 50Hz. Maybe its output level is not variable. I do not know what it can be used for.

Then use an oscilloscope to see what you can get at multimeter terminals.
Most scopes also have a calibration output, 1 kHz square wave, 1 or 5 V p-p. Connect this to your multimeter and see what it indicates.

DT832 is one of the models in DT830 series.
