[SOLVED] sprintf like function in VHDL

I suggest trying to get a new version of modelsim - 6.5 is quite old (and has bugs that I got fixed!)
Newer versions just have newer bugs. I've found 6.4 to be the most stable version. Every version after that seems to crash and burn on something which leads me back to 6.4 as the 'temporary' work around.

Thats fine if you stick with vhdl 93 without using protected types much.
But if you want 2008 with decent protected type support, stuck with 10+

I'm not saying to stick with 6.4 by choice or start with it but every 10.x version has crashed for me and I have to revert back to 6.4 in order to get work done.

Never having to see the message
"Modelsim is exiting with code 211. Check the transcript file for more information on the fatal error. This dialog will automatically close in 10 seconds"

simply because code coverage was enabled or because a programmed assertion was hit are pretty important things too. I can work around not having code coverage (after having to spend the time to investigate) but exiting when a particular assertion is hit is different. Other crashes have not been that obvious but also seem to be a bit more random. Since the failures have been reported and confirmed, the real message might be to switch to a different tool, and hope the grass really is greener.
