spectrum analyzer

Hello all,

I would like to pay a spectrum analyzer and need some advises. I work in designing circuits in frequencies from 0-100Mhz.

I found on the web some models but I have no idea about their quality.

All following models have the same look and specifications with tracking generator:

BK2639 $1870 Link: https://www.tequipment.net/BK2630.html

Hameg HM5510 2225$ no tracking generator

Instek GSP-810 $2140 https://www.tequipment.net/InstekGSP810.html

China made SM5011 $570

these models has the look ans specs, but the prices are very deferent, the chaines (SM5011) is very cheap. Did any body owned this model? is it reliable? accurate? any advises please.

it seems to me they are the same device with defernt names.

I appreciate any help very much.

Re: spectrum analyzer

one think to take into consideration is the repair. If you use the unit enough it will quit in some way and need repair. Are there any factory authorized repair dealers in your town or country? I have a famous name signal generator. I used it a few hours and then not for several years. The next time I needed to use it, it did not work.

Re: spectrum analyzer

You may need something with at least 5X the frequency that you designing with if you are interested in the harmonics.

Don't overlook TEK 492/5 types that can sometimes be picked up for low money from ebay. Make sure it is guaranteed to work. They last for many years and service documentation is easily obtainable.

I have one that has been in service for over 10 years. Only once repaired a failed osc on it.

Re: spectrum analyzer

Reliability is statistical. I have a component audio system that has given me 40,000 hours of service over the past 27 years with no electronic failures. The component boxes with electrical motors, such as CD players, regularly have motor failures after about 10,000 hours of use.

The tail light on my previous car went out after a month. The replacement lasted 20 years.
