Re: sort of off topic...soldering directly onto ground plane

When I sent in my latest set of boards, I forgot to connect a few connections to the ground plane on the other side. There is a via, but the net is not set to ground, so on the ground plane side, there is a soldermask between the trace and the ground plane. Is there any way to bypass this and manually solder the trace to the ground plane?
Thanks!

The main problem is that I can't get the ground plane to accept solder...any ideas?

Re: sort of off topic...soldering directly onto ground plane

I think your main problem is that when you try to solder to a ground plane the heat spreads out so quickly the area doesn't get hot enough to make the solder stick. This is why pads connected to ground planes have thermal reliefs (spokes that increase the thermal resistance from the pad to the plane) allowing the pad to get hot enough. I think that your best option is to try to increase your soldering iron temperature.

Good Luck!!

Mike
