I have a Mercury 400W PC SMPS which is blowed. I have opened it and have found a component like a disc cap. It is in series to one of the supply terminals and after the Cap there is a parallel resistor to the other power terminal. The cap is light green, about the size od a small button and have "SOK 82" written on it. DMM shown 0ohm with continuity test. Can anyone tell me what it is and the possible value of it?

Yes that is an NTC. Thanks s lot. Also in my rush, I didn't read the DMM properly, it reads 8.0ohms..

Hi,
I think it is an NTC for input current inrush limiting.
Also, take a look at MF72 for replacement and take a look at the datasheet to see if it works.

Hope this helps.
Tahmid.

Thanks a lot Tahmid. That was an NTC. I failed to get the reading right. Instead of 8ohm I read 0ohm.

I also found the Schematic of the SMPS from another post n edaboard (sorry I do not remember where). I have attached it below for people who will come to this post in the future.

Another note for those who are repairing the SMPS (especially the cheapo ones) Look for the Electrolytics, they will be most probably dead and open. Also check the Diodes and transistors. On some models the transistors would just break away from eh heat sink because of their low quality.[/i]
