Slow Xilinx ISE 7.1.04i GUI on Win 2000 SP4

Hello!

I've got a problem with Xilinx ISE 7.1.04i running under Win2k SP4 on a Celeron 2.8 with 512MB RAM.

Switching between different windows or tabs is so awfully slow that working with this software is really a pain. It takes about 15s after switching to another window before the program accepts new input. Sometimes there occur graphic errors, like lines of the old window in the new one.
I've already upgaded RAM and installed a new graphics card with a Radeon 7000 (not the top model, I know, but on my laptop it works fine with it). Even on my old Athlon 1800 at home I have no problems like that. A second, identically configured office PC is also slow. Antivirus Software is disabled.

Has anybody also encountered problems like this and could give me some advices?
I have read about problems with ISE under Linux, but not for Windows. Even my distributor's application engineer is stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you have the latest SERVICE PACK installed?
may be that can solve the problem.

7.1.04i is the latest version.
I wonder if this could be a problem of software configuration on the office PCs here, because the hardware should be fast enough. CPU load isn't really going high during window switching either.

But just while writing this, our Lotus Notes server crashed once again and I have killed all processes related to Notes on my PC. And now, all of a sudden, it all runs smoothly. I'll praise the day when we get rid of this piece of binary crap...

So my problem seems to be solved, next time I encounter some problems, no matter of which kind, I'll kill Notes first and ask then

Slow Xilinx ISE GUI

Is your hard drive running continuously during those long delays? If yes, then you need more RAM. 512MB is too small for Win2k+ISE unless you are designing small chips.

Open your Windows Task Manager "Performance" tab to see how much total memory is being used. The "Process" tab may be interesting too, but it's an incomplete list.

ISE runs very smoothly on my Win2k, after I installed 1.5GB of RAM.

It works fine on my computer with WinXP SP1. I've got a P3 900MHz and 512MB RAM. Probably the problem is with Celeron? They're not good at multitasking.
