Hi,
We are thinking of buying this SmartEgg charger for 140W offline 90-265VAC

It is actually a version of the following, shown on Fig 5, page 9...

One obviously needs to just use a micro so as to keep the volt seconds from flying off either positively or negatively.
Seems strange there aren't OTS chip solutions for it? (or are there some?), since it is just a version of the well known PFC bias supply as shown above.
You can see that the Boost PFC has been made synchronous.

So basically we wondered if there would be chips available?, since all it is is a Boost PFC, where the diode has been done as a synchronous FET, and the Boost inductor has a secondary coil added to it, and the output is taken from that. The (secondary) diodes in the LT1248 datasheet version have been done with synchronous FETs. Obviously the magnetising current of the Boost inductor/transformer cannot be allowed to saturate the core, so the volt_seconds_ON has to be kept equal to the volt_seconds_OFF, and so thats where the bit of processing comes into it.
Enough of El capacitance added so that there is not over-the-ripple-current rating operation.
