i am designing a pll based clock generator of 2.4 GHz. For that i need to convert sinusoidal output of VCO to square wave with sharp clock edges. i don't have any clue, how to do it. which will work for GHz . plz suggest me regarding this.

dont know but a sharp edge at 2.4GHz means a b/w of much more than 2.4GHz. Seems too high.

It is possible to use an opamp in open-loop configuration. You need to have enough slew-rate to drive your load at the desired frequency.

u can use either a comparator or a scmitt trigger circuit.
