Can sim900d tolerate 5v logic levels? Its datasheet says that the supply voltage should be between 3.2 and 4.8V.
I want to interface sim900d with my arduino running at 5v. If i connect the gsm module and arduino directly would the 5v logic signals by arduino damage my gsm module. If it's safe what voltage should i run my gsm module at?

I think you should do the level matching with triode first, or at lease serial a resistor between them

You can use 4.2V LDO between the external supply and the GSM modem....Other wise you can design resistor divider network

vo= (R2/R1+R2) * Vin
