significance of max-width violation in DRC

Hi guys,
DRC are rules to ensure correctness of design for manufacturing. min width specifies minimum width which could be manufactured. if our design width is less than that, it may cause open circuit. What does maximum width signify? Y is it needed? Can anyone explain its purpose?

We have maximum metal-width design rules because the shear stress (especially at the corners of the die, which occurs during mounting the die on the chip carrier) can cause large metal areas to lift. A solution to this problem is to place slots in the wide metal lines.
