Dear sir,

What is the procedure to design Servo controlled Variac transformer for single and three phase .

Need the following :

1.) Core area calculation with Core diagram
2.) MPL
3.) Window area .
4.)MLT.
5.)Area product or Kg
6.)Window utilisation
7.)Regulation .

Best regards
Manoj

A Variac is essentially a toroid core. Use the calculations for those.

Dear sir,

What is the core materiel used for building Auto trafo ?

Do they use GOSS matriel ? What will be maximum flux density ??

Best Regards
Manoj

I ignore what is a GOSS material. Please explain the acronym.

But most likely you would start with a sheet of magnetic steel, and with a stamping press punch out the laminations, but in this case will be toroidal in shape.
Stack them up like standard EI laminations. All of the transformer equations apply.

For magnetic steel, a rule of thumb is to calculate an operating flux of 1.5 Tesla at maximum input voltage. Depending on performance and cost tradeoffs, you can operate at either higher or lower flux density.

Dear sir,

What about the losses is it same as EI - Transformer ??

Best regards
Manoj

What is the core materiel used for building Auto trafo ?

Core materials of transformer/auto transformer selected based on the operating frequency
For 50/60Hz application Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Silicon Steel(3% Silicon) are mostly using
For 400Hz application Silicon steel, Nickel steel and Cobalt steel are used
Amorphous and noncrystalline materials having superior performance in above mentioned frequency s

What about the losses is it same as EI - Transformer ??

Losses are not influenced by core geometry like torroid or EL
Losses depends on the core material, operating frequency and operating flux density

Dear sir ,

Thanks , What are the electromechanical parts involved in the variac trafo ??? How would i size it???

Best regards
Manoj

1. a movable carbon tip
2. Brush arm
3. Silver plated commutator

Size of these parts are decided by overall size of wound core and current carrying capacity
