I have a semiconuctor laser that has a peak value of gain of γ=2000m^-1
and attenuation of α=600m^-1
a) Mirror reflecttivities are: R1=R2=0.35, What is the minimum value of the cavity length L?

Can I use this formula??:

γ=α-1/2L*ln(R1*R2)

Yes, you can... It is exactly what you need
