hello,
i need a 8 bit dac for my college project,
i saw some DAC's on internet.
But they require a negative power supply. and i need one that works only on +5 volts only
(single supply).
is there any DAC IC(must be easily available). or should i make an R2R ladder DAC using discrete resistors......
which is better......????
the application is not too much dependent upon accuracy, a little error is tolerable i think

You don't even need an IC. You can make a DAC yourself using a microcontroller and R-2R ladder. You'll just need to add some cheap rail to rail amplifier to buffer the voltage.
Look at wikipedia for 'resistor ladder'.

As for ICs I'd use MCP4801/MCP4802. Those have internal bandgap reference voltage of some easily dividable value (like 8 mV / LSM or similiar) and are driven by SPI which is included in almost all MCus and also very easy to bitbang with those MCUs that don't have it.

but DAC 0808 requires VEE other than +5V i think i havent seen any ckt on google whithout it. (it requires a negative VEE)
