Piano Craft monitor
It's a simple prescription for cheap two way monitors, based on TESLA converters. Assumptions was to made very simple construction, with easy to buy elements, but with sound quality much better then on cheap constructions available at shops.
An inspiration for it were Piano Craft ( the same proportions of front side)
Casing:
Convertors: ARN 150-03/8 and ARV 104-4/8
Boxes with capacity 8,80l made up of particle board 1,1cm without any soundproof layer ( thanks to that, also columns walls plays) Side walls and rear are permanently tight. Front wall we can screw out - to keep it hermetic at the edges i put window's sponge. Bass reflex hole is at the back, pipe is cardboard pot. Bass reflex diameter is 3cm, lenght 9,5cm
Columns are set on 45Hz. Display on WINISD you can check at web https://www.elektroda.pl/rtvforum/topic1450286.html. This solution is because i wanted to gain low tones, what is not easy with such small speakers.
If you want to copy this project, you must be accurate. Small difference for example with box dimensions, bass reflex dimensions, cause bass lost. Changing pipe length could help to adjust in property.
As a branch i used MKT 1uF condensers that is in series connection. It's a primitive solution, but after had tried classic branches i decided , that is the best. This cause that low tones speakers is not muffle from top. This allow to get maximum middle tones from this speaker.
Finall effect:
Althought colums have been made as a experiment, they play very good as for simple and cheap construction. Sound is clear and nice for ear.
We have to remember that finnal effect is depend on monitor's set. Columns play with walls, and have bass reflex at the back. Placing columns near wall or wardrobe cause horrible sound. If we really need to situate them near wall, it is good idea to cover bass reflex by sponge.
Another advice is not to plug amplifiers witch profile clause to V letter otherwise system will miss middle tones.
Speakers play with:
- LM3875 amplifier
- Denon DCD -595 with some modification
- Yamaha TX-492 tuner
- Sony TC-411 deck
