Sanyo Dynamotor motor and controller YK87 in a bicycle

It is an electric power for a bicycle. A brush motor 250W and two gel batteries were used. The assumptions were that the drive would be easily removable without re-manufacturing the bicycle. The engine would be driven by friction pulleys (a roll). The whole was placed under the bicycle pedals and hanged on one screw in the place of bracket. A battery casing with electric actuator was built, which tighten the roll to the wheel when the engine turns on and the suspension of the engine, but without roll and gear.



After that, an idea came to change the motor. It was done with a brushless motor with a controller. A motor was placed in the drive reel with planetary gear.



Gel accumulators were changed to the lithium battery from a laptop. Unfortunately, the engine went poorly, but more power could be reached by changing the controller. Noise transmission was the worst thing about it. That turned out to be unacceptable.



Another try was brush motor Heinzmann 250W, connected with front wheel. The motor required application of a simple controller and changing the front wheel. Although the motor had only 250W and at a speed greater than 25km/h the drive detached on the free-wheel (the maximum engine speed was less than it appeared from the wheel turns), it worked very well.
Another change was application of a brushless motor Sanyo Dynamotor. It weights only 2,5kg with rim.



Riding an electrical bike is real fun. So why not build the whole device once again from the beginning? Things needed were new set of accumulators and Chinese controller for brushless motors YK87. Electronics and accumulators can be hidden in a bicycle carrier bag. A case of the carrier bag dimensions can be made of plastic housings from Sun and IBM servers.



120 cells from laptop batteries were soldered into 2 sets. It gave together a battery of 40V 15Ah.

Everything fits the upper carrier bag. The controller needs shorting 2 wires in order to properly set the direction of rotation and get acquainted with hallotrons while first starting. After disconnecting the wires, the engine runs superbly.
Also, LED lighting can be made. It consists of 30 white diodes in front and 10 red ones in back. The charger with balancer (universal for all types of battery with a current up to 10A) can be used to charge the bike.

Because the cheaper chargers load lithium cells only to 6S, six series, and in this bike there is 10 of those, so initially the idea was to load twice half of the battery. But eventually the batteries are crossed by canon DB25 connector 5S while charging and 10S while driving.
