What is the difference between hard and soft real time system?

Re: RTOS

hard real time systems are systems that cant tolerate any delay
or if delay happens the whole system will be worthless

soft real time systems are systems that can tolerate delay

example for hard are break systems in automotives
examples for soft are mp3 players or mobiles

Re: RTOS

Hard real time --> must finish the task within the restrict time
Soft real time --> can finish the task "on time" or exceed the deadline time for a few amount of time

Added after 45 seconds:

Hard real time --> must finish the task within the restrict time
Soft real time --> can finish the task "on time" or exceed the deadline time for a few amount of time

Added after 45 seconds:

Hard real time --> must finish the task within the restrict time

Re: RTOS

Hi

In Hard Real Time Systems the correctnes of output depends on time. not before and not after and time must be prdictable .

In Soft real time systems if it can't meet the required time , this will affect only the quality but not the correctnes of results. off course up to limit.

Re: RTOS

Hard real time systems are systems that can not tolerate any delay in the response ………like cars or a planes a fracture of a seconded can be the difference between life and death. Delay for hard real time systems means failure the system is worthless.
Soft real time systems are systems that can tolerate a degree of delay …………. Like your MP3 player or your digital camera, 2 or 3 seconds delay won’t kill you. Delay for soft real time systems is a quality isuss.

Re: RTOS

check free RTOS its a simple free real time operationg system for tiny controllers and its manual explains all.
