Hello everybody,

In last time featured few articles about new "Open hardware" CPU architecture called "RISC-V". It is sometimes depicted as an alternative to "ARM" CPUs.

Here is the link to the project site:

http://riscv.org/

I know that this CPU has generally less performance than ARM, but there are few interesting hardware projects base3d on "RISC-V" architecture.
There is also Linux for that hardware:

http://github.com/riscv/riscv-linux

And last time appeared few board with this CPU. Especially interesting for me is "C-SKY Linux Development Board". Here is link to project website:

**broken link removed**

This board is equiped with many peripherals and axtensions, and it cost on one of Chinese shops only 5.60 $ (US):

, or about 20$ on Aliexpress:

Has anybody experience with this hardware and can share it with others?

Regards

The CPU on that board has a C-SKY architecture, not RISC-V.

Hello,

I read that C-Sky is derived from RISC-V (it is altered version of RISC-V). Because "RISC-V" is free hardware, anybody can alter this architecture and sell such altered CPUs.

But ....

frankly speaking I am a little confused and not quite sure if I am right :-?

Chinese firms sell electronics very cheap but they do not provide support and documentation on the sufficient level. It is good for doing a DIY but I would not use any hardware for serious commercial project.

Hello,

I was asking in context of amateur projects :)
