RF analog signals through stacking board-to-board connectors.
Is this a "no-no".
I am thinking on a project with a 2Gs/s AD converter, a digital board with FPGA and an analog RF daughtercard. For best signal quality the high speed AD converter would be on the daughter card with the RF circuits. But in terms of logistics, 2 people would be designing the 2 cards, one digital expert (me) and an analog RF expert. The AD converter is probably more in the digital domain, so for project convinience the AD converter would go on the FPGA card. But then the problem is the ADC would get its input through a stacking board to board connector. These connectors are typically used for high-speed digital signals, have minimal shielding. The only thing that makes it somewhat easier is the fact that the ADC input gets its high-level (1Vpp or similar) signal from an amplifier, and the amplifier can be placed on the analog daughtercard.
So, anyone routed RF analog signals through a similar connector?
