When do you use 20log() and when do you use 10 log() while converting something into decibels?

Thanks in advance.

Use 10 when dealing with power ratios, 20 when dealing with voltage. The answer is always a power ratio. So, a power ratio of 10x results in 10dB, a voltage ratio of 10x results in 20dB.
