Columns that I had is an export version at Tonsil licence. Impedance 4ohm, columns are perfect for Radmor 5100 and Fonica CDF001- first polish CD. Device has few years and you can see it. Boxes are in bad condition, also quality of high tones is too sharp and metallic for me. Besides I wanted to add some soundproog layer.
1. Casing
New terminals as old DIN are not a good idea.
Next veneer and painting. I decided to lusterless as lustrous is too hard to keep clean. Painting was professional by pistol. Lacquer layer is very thin so wood structure is easy to see.
Casing stand on bolts so now columns gives a sound, not sugar bowl as previously
Sound proof layer – original tonsil foam, at all walls except rear. At rear I put wadding and polyester fleece . I also put a small plates (9mm wide) to depart sound proof layer from walls. Branch point goes to the very bottom of construction. I also removed old thin cables and give full dimensions 2,5mm^2. hex screws at the end.
2. low tones
Columns consist the best speakers available at PRL time – GDN 25/40/1 with rag suspension, and passive membrane. Membranes got new paint – wikol glue with Indian ink as a solvent. Paint I put by sponge, that was great idea. Membranes looks as new.
Sound effect – new paint didn’t give any effect, but silencer layer did. Now the bass is really great! Better dynamic and control by still nice soft and worm bass. Admittedly bass level is lower but with much better quality.
3. middle tones
STX PJ instead GDWK 9/40/1 Difference is huge – trebles can give a lot of fun . So device doesn’t consist any weakness.
