This rectifier can be used for 12V and 24V accumulators. The principle of operation is quite simple and the device has not advanced electronics and automatics. It gives the right voltage and large current.
Elements used:
- transformer
- voltage switch
- bridge
- LEDs
- ammeter
- relay
- button
How it works:
Pressing START button causes voltage fed to the transformer, which supplies Pk relay, which shorts the contacts connected in parallel to the START button. Circuit then „shuts” and conducts as long as there is voltage on a coil of the relay. The relay protects against consequences of such unreasonable actions as short-circuit of clamps or permanent charging the rectifier. Short-circuit or high current causes a voltage drop and the relay disconnects the transformer's supply and protects the rectifier from damage.
Next, there is voltage switch coupled with LEDs which provide information on the voltage currently fed to the output. At a voltage of 12V only „half” of the transformer works. You could connect two windings in parallel and then voltage at the output would be higher, or you can use another transformer and gain other voltages, for example 6V and 12V (but remember to change LEDs and relay).
Output voltage is 14V and 28V. Current – 3,6A and more. There should be a fuse at the output of the bridge. It is good to use a fuse which operates repeatedly. Just wait a moment and you can turn on the rectifier again after the short-circuit is removed.
