Really small header for getting signals off board

This is a reoccurring theme for me, perhaps one of you has a good solution:

Small dense board with no very little room to spare, I need to get a few signals off board for debug purposes, for example a couple of UART signals, gnd etc.

These signals are typically only needed during the test and debug phase, not ongoing production.

Simply no room for the big 0.1" DIP headers that are commonly used. I'm looking for a header with perhaps 1mm pitch (or smaller). No problem finding these headers in various pin counts, however need some sort of readily available (off the shelf) pigtail for the other end to connect to the real world / test equipment

Any suggestions on a source for the pigtail end?

For every 1mm header, there's a matching 1mm socket. Generally, those small connectors are insulation-displacement types, so you'll need a tool. Furthermore, they generally are large pin counts. If you only need a few signals, why not just drop a few testpoints(vias) around the board, and solder some wires there?

This is an example of what I'm looking for (actually would prefer higher density perhaps 1mm instead of 2mm).

Does anyone know where you can buy prefabricated harness like this for a reasonable price?
