Hello all,

I'm doing a personal robot project.

I've read into Xbox 360 controllers and apparently they work in 2.4GHz frequency range.

I have recently bought is a CC3000 wifi controller.

I don't see why I can't use the two together.

I'm hoping that through an FPGA I can use the spi comms on the CC3000 I can talk to the Xbox controller & vice a versa.

I want to be able to detect when a user moves the analogue stick left or right.

However I've hit a brick in my planning. Where can I get information about the handshaking that takes place. Can I do this without a usb xbox receiver ?

My other alternative is to use a xbox controller emulator to talk to the CC3000...however I'd like to skip the requirement for a PC & software.

Ideally looking for a standalone robot system

Thanks in Advance
Regards,
Wes

You can't because the xbox 360 controllers use a proprietary RF protocol, you'll have to first reverse engineer the RF signal and then build your own RF receiver. It's doesn't use wifi, and the next layer up uses a USB protocol.

The easiest way would be to use one of the "Microsoft Xbox 360™ Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows®" described in this guys instructables Xbox 360 controlled Power Wheels kiddie Jeep.
