hi all

here are a few things i want to have ur opinions on:

1) which xilinx device supports partial re-configuration? especially dynamic.

2) i plan to implement a processor with aim of demonstrating run time reconfigurability. i think of making a floating poin unit in it which could be reconfigured at runtime into a SIMD unit. can anyone comment on its merits/demerits. also is there better an idea than this one?

thanks

Hi

I think none of the FPGAs can support partial reconfigurability. But Atmel's FPSLIC features partial re-configuration. Here, the microcontroller inside FPSLIC, is not changeable, but FPGA part can be changeable fully at runtime.

Regarding dynamic re-configuration, i think it is possible by using Atmel's FPSLIC. You can re-configure it by applying some hard reset. But, you may loose some information in processing of the data.

Regards,
Vishwa
