Hi there. I would like to create a reasonably simple interactive video installation using an arduino(for sensors) and a raspberry pi(for video). I have been on the prowl for a screen to use for the project. ideally it will be touch sensisive. The problem i am having is that all the screens which explicitly state that they are compatible with raspberry pi are seemingly disproportionately expensive when contrasted with the prices of some tablets on the market. in the two included examples, the tablet has the same screen resolution as the **broken link removed** but is a tablet so of of course has a processor and ram and networking and all that other stuff, and its cheaper......
so my problem is, whats going on? why is the screen so expensive/ the tablet so cheap? i would feel slightly cheated spending 30 quid on a screen and then having to buy the pi knowing that there is a tablet for cheaper than the price of the screen alone!
the tablet has a usb port so theoretically one could connect an arduino to it and bypass the pi altogether since this thing looks to be much more powerful anyway. its just a case of whether or not one could easily run custom software on it like on the pi.
if anyone has any comments for this i would be very interested to hear what you have to say, thanks,
Danny

Hello!

Your question is quite surprising.
Don't you know that when a product is made by millions it becomes cheaper?
Raspberry pi does not play on the same ground. It's made for developers, not for consumers.
But it's already quite widespread, which explains that Raspberry pi, considering its components
and capabilities, is quite cheap.
I think the raspberry pi screen is quite cheap for a 7 inch 1024 x 600 device.

Hi, thanks for the reply. yes i did know that i guess i just failed to make the connection. does the price difference between the raspberry pi screen and the screen on the tablet arise due to the former having video in? are there not any 'mass produced' screens which have this capability>?thanks.

Hello!

You can find some mass produced screens, there are many of them. Now will you be able to use them? That's
another story. If you buy Raspberry pi screen, you're almost sure that there will be some geeks around who
publish source code to make it work. If you buy an anonymous screen somewhere in China, you will have
to start from scratch. Now it's up to you. You can find a mass production screen around 25 Euros or maybe
a bit less. You will have to do everything by yourself from the 1st pixel. Is it worth what you will save?
Beside this, if you buy anything in China, you will have no warranty at all and the shipping fee might also
be expensive. Or you buy 100 of them and resell what remains... around 50 Euros with source code.

Dora.

Well i certainly don't want to be doing everything myself from the first pixel! i shall have a look around. thanks for your help Dora.
