When design files have been updates, do I have to quit Questasim GUI to restart, or there is a command option to reload all design files in GUI environment? I cant find such command or menu in GUI, can any expert help out?
I used verdi+Questasim before, in that env, I only need to reload design in verdi after simulation is rerun. But in Questasim GUI, it seems not so convenient. For example, everytime, a new signals being added to waveform window, the simulation has to be rerun. Or there is a convenient way to do wave view? Thanks in advance.

Recompile any file that has changed, do a restart command either from the GUI or command line, and then run. Restart reloads anything that has changed and keeps the same signals in the wave window.

You may find the modelsim/questasim quick reference card we give out in our VHDL classes handy. You can download it from https://www.synthworks.com/downloads/

It does not work. I modified a file and in GUI
VSIM 1〉restart
Questasim didn't do recompile the file. It loaded the compiled database.
Did I miss something?

Unless you set it up as a project, you must manually recompile the file (which is the first step in the previous post). One easy way to recompile the file is to open the library window, right click and select recompile. If you download the quick reference card it explains other ways to do this. You might also find our ModelSim tutorial of interest since it seems you are just starting out. It will remove the frustration factor of getting started.
