Question on Op-Amps- is max output given per package or amp?

Question on Op-Amps

Hi,
I have a question on Op-Amps. Generally we find dual or quad op-amps an a IC. In the specsheet, there is a rating mentioned for the max output current. Does that signify the max output current from the package or per amplifier?

In general it is per channel, rather per chip,
check with the graphs provided in the datasheets of that opamp.

If you post the part number that you are interested in, we can give you a more definite answer.

But, generally, for a max current specified under "Absolute Maximum Ratings" it would apply to the whole chip, and for a current specified under "Electrical Characteristics" it would apply to each opamp.

Don't take that as fact though - it's always best to confirm what your part's datasheet says.

Also note that you don't really want to to a design that regularly runs an IC close to it max ratings. This is usually where your design will eventually fail - especially when the system heats up somewhat.

Generally what I have noted is if a current rating is per amplifier then they mention that in the specsheet e.g LT1638 else it's a package rating.
