Hi,
I am working with transmission lines with 3D geometry (i.e., cross-section is not uniform). Currently, I have been using HFSS' export ability to obtain equivalent RLGC parameters as a function of frequency in order to do some post-processing.
I have now noticed that ANSYS has Q3D extractor as an available tool. As a university student, I will also be able to obtain this tool. However, before doing so, I wanted to know if someone can comment on the differences between HFSS and Q3D.
More specifically, what is the difference between extracting RLCG from a 3D model in Q3D extractor and the RLGC parameters exported with the same model in HFSS? Is it possible to obtain an equivalent microwave effective index or characteristic impedance for such 3D lines in Q3D extractor (it is mentioned that such feature is available for 2D extraction)?
Thanks!
