protell

hello
what differents are between protell 99 SE and Protell DXP , and what we can do in DXP that we cant do in "99 SE"
thank you

protell software

Dear navid
I work by DXP and 99SE.
I think that 99SE is better and DXP have some bug.
thank

protell dxp

Protel dxp is much more sophisticated.
It has lots of improvements which makes it easier to use libraries and such.
I recommend DXP.
At the initial start it seems to be a little awkard.
But when you get used to new features it is much better than 99 SE.

By the way it has new service pack updates. So be sure to follow the
latest update for proper operation

protell99se

It's slightly buggier, yes, but in termso f functionality, you can't compare the two. If you aren't doing any high-end design, chances are 99 is good enough. But if you want a nicer interface, and more control, then DXP is better.

Agree. Though I like the new GUI and enhancement.

Andway anyone has tried the SP2?

DXP has many performance improvements than Protel 99 SE, especially the IDE's appearance & operation :) I'm currently working with DXP in our project, though there ara still some buuugs~

protell99

I am using 2004 SP 2.. it's not bug-free (what is), but definitely an improvement over 2004.

protell 99

There is no bug-free program in the world :)
I'm using SP2 too, one of the obvious bugs is that the buttons in the bottom of netlist update dialog are disappeared, sadness~

Not really. If the program in mission-to-Mars consists of a bug, Opportunity and Spirit won't land on Mars!

The first impression after running D X P was: "total mess". It has many new functions and improvements but one doesn't need to switch from Protel99 to DXP immediately. Many of the new functions will not be used at all by the designer although many of them are very usefull. For instance, you can edit component symbols directly on the sheet (moving chip pins along its body etc.) without editing them in the library. In my opnion, the worst thing is a structure of generates files. DXP generates row upon row of files which can make the designer confused. Protel99 keeps all the generated documents in one single file (*.ddb) whilst DXP generates separate file for schematic, PCB and others. However, as we know, any new software can be learned but it needs some patience.
