proper grounding of shield for RS-422/485

Hi, I want to shield the differential pairs (shield for RX+/RX- and shield for TX+/TX-), inside a cable. Should the shield be grounded to one end only / both ends/etc?

How should the shield be grounded...or better yet, should it be grounded at all?
 

Hi Sweethomela8,

According to "Serial Port Complete" you should be attaching the shield to each device in the circuit through a 100 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. I have an access control system at a retirement center with 12 nodes on the system. The shields of each cable are grounded at each node.
