Hi Everybody,
Is here any one working on SIM300 if so, is there any thing to be added other than the circuit provided in Schematics provided in Ver 2.02. Because I getting RDY after Power on but it's not detecting sim card when sim card is placed. I have used 6 pin simcard holder and sim presence pin is grounded using 10K pull down resister.Do i need to set any thing else using AT commands or any other Hardware required.

Thankyou,
Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Exactly same problem I am facing with sim300 it gets power on properly(LED blink 64ms on/800ms off ut not get registered to network (LEd blink 64ms on/300ms off)
I have send mail to simcom about this problem & waiting for reply. Please inform me if u find root cause.

Hi tramp
Did u get voltage external and SIM VDD. Im getting Both EXT_VDD and SimVDD after power on but Sim VDD is droping after 40sec Automatically. I guess my problem will be solved if SimVDD remains constant.

Thankyou,
Ravi.

+cpin: not ready

Hi Pisoiu
I have tested the module with Presence pin
1.pulled down through 10k resistor .
2. Directly grounded.
3. NC
Here are the voltages with respect to the above mentioned conditions
1. when sim presence is pulled down through 10k resistor after powr on I found 0.14mv and when it reached 0.8mv I received messsage CPIN:Not Ready.

2. when sim presence is Directly grounded after powr on I found 0.14mv and when it reached 0.1mv I received messsage CPIN:Not Ready.

3. when sim presence is NC after powr on I found 0.65mv and when it reached 0.45mv I received messsage CPIN:Not Ready.

Note: Immediately after power on Every Time Im Receiving CPIN:Ready

Thankyou,
Ravi.

I observed attached wavefom ofSIMVDD pin on DSO which remains permanent low after 220msec. In normal case it should go high as soon as it get poweron pulse in presence of simcard & antenna.

Hi Tramp,
Good Morning, are you getting RDY,as soon as you power on, if not your Modem is with auto Bauding so you need to fix baude rate according to your convenience using AT commands

AT+IPR=x;(ENTER)
OK;
AT&W(ENTER)
OK;
I guess this may will help you to solve your problem.

Thanking you,
Ravi

Hi Ravi,
I dont get RDY massage during power on . I have already change baudrate to 1200 using above command. But I get massage "NORMAL POWER DOWN" before going to power off.

Did your reply for command AT+CSDT=0 ? It is a command for enabling/desabling simcard detection.

tramp

Hi ravi,
Did u get high signal on SIMVDD pin?

sim300 evb schematic

Hi Tramp,
Check the input voltage to modem, it should be greater than 3.6V-4.5 and it,s better to maintain 4.2V.

you will get an message saying "NORMAL POWER DOWN" only when you give "AT+CPOWD" commanding modem to shut down through software and before getting shut down it sends an message reporting "NORMAL POWER DOWN". you can find the behaviour of SIM VDD along with SIM PRESENCE pin and this behavour is very clearly explained in my previous reply to Mr. pisoiu. AT+CSDT command is used to Know whether Sim has been placed or not(which does'nt comes to picture right know). verify hardware design document Ver2.02 pdf
and AT commands documents Ver1.04 pdf which are available on net.

Thankyou,
Ravi

I am oprating sim300 on 4V & hardware is as per given in design document Ver2.02 & I don't think there is as much problem form hardware side.As per ur reply to pisoiu , he has ask u abuot status of SIMpresence Pin & u have mention about signal level of SIMpresence Pin .But if that signal levels are for SIMVDD pin that means SIMVDD is not generating in your case also.

Good question - how do you guys hookup your SIM 300 module? It is soooo small and that connector is SMD?

Is there some kind of breakout board for SIM 300?

Got PCB designed especially for that Connector.

Cool! With or without the connector, and how do I get it? Actually I would probably need 2, just in case an 'accident' happens

I havent had the time to attempt to solder it - and probably thats for the better cuz it does look super small and my Weller will defenitely NOT do for this kind of work, so do tell us about that magic PCB! Pleazzzze,

Thanks

You can solder it with almost any station, but definetely you'll need a pcb with solder mask, some flux material, very well controlled ammounts of solder material, and what's most important : good hand and experience. You can also solder it with hot air station, but you'll have to be carefull, the plastic from the connector is very sensitive to overheating. It is not impossible.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I am sure it is NOT impossible but you dont know me I would rather not test my skills on a 65 bucks worth of a toy, and instead I am happy to spend few more bucks for a breakout board. I dont expect it to work right off the bad but at least I will know the issue is not with my crappy soldering skills.

If you know of any breakout board please do tell us - it will be of great help for the less-than-gods around here

Thanks

sim card holder sim300

I am sorry, but I don't know any breakout board. All the tests I've done on it were with thin wires soldered directly on the connector, without any pcb. After the tests completion, I've made a PCB for it.
You don't have to test your skills on the modem, in the worst case, if you don't have experience with such fine pitch, you'll destroy one connector, which worth far less. You have another choice, I am convinced that in any GSM repair shop you'll find somebody to solder it for you, but you'll need the PCB.

Ok, I am convinced - are you selling the PCB you have just made? If yes PM me and will work something out. I really want to get a fabricated PCB rather than trying to figure the whole Eagle thing myself and deal with fabrication, and then even if I get it done with no errors - solder paste and reflow toaster oven seems like yet another project If I could just buy the PCB I will be a happy camper!

sim300 module خرید

HI Everybody,

Is here anybody working on SIM300. my module is loosing SIM_VDD after 40 sec onds(CPIN:NOT READY) Is there any command to be executed.

Thanking you,

Hey Ravi

How about that board? If I get one I will try it out with my module and let you know
