Hi,

I have a 300W ATX SMPS. One of the IDE power connector's pin was loose, so i tried to make it tight with a sharp scissor. And, when i connected it back and just switched on the Spike Buster, the fuse of the Spike Buster blown. I didn't even Pressed the switch on the CPU case...?!? Even if i change the Spike Buster's fuse with a new one, that fuse also blows.

I think the scissor made a short with the +5V or with the +12V to the ground.

The fuse inside the SMPS is good and gives connectivity with a Digital Multimeter (DMM).

So, can somebody tell me what's wrong in my SMPS and how to correct it?

Thanks and Bye,

ATX SMPS Problem

You know better what you did and you can solve it better than expecting anyone to fire in thin air and expect to hit the target. Easiest thing is to trace the circuit where you have a "Short" cicruit that blows the fuse.
Cheers

Re: ATX SMPS Problem

Hi pranam,

SMPS have large Electrolytic Capacitors. Well, i think there was still some voltage inside these capacitors and when there was a short with the +5v/+12v with the ground, something must have happened.

When i opened the SMPS, everything looks normal, no burnt components?

And, i forgot to mention the SMPS company. It's MERCURY.

Bye,
